The Village of Nunda is located on the west side of the Town Of Nunda on Route 408. HISTORY The village was incorporated in 1839 . A large fire destroyed part of the village in 1852. In 1853, an attempt was made to found a new county with Nunda village as the county seat. This attempt failed. GEOGRAPHY Nunda is located at 42°34'50" North, 77°56'18" West (42.580628, -77.938392). According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 2.6 Km&2 (1.0 Mi&2 ). None of the area is covered with water. The village is at the junction of Routes 408 and 436. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,330 people, 505 households, and 360 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 518.7/km&2 (1,349.9/mi&2). There were 547 housing units at an average density of 213.3/km&2 (555.2/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.59% White , 0.38% Black or African American , 0.15% Native American , 0.30% Asian , 0.08% Pacific Islander , 0.60% from Other Races , and 0.90% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 505 Household s out of which 40.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.9% were Married Couples living together, 18.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.02. In the village the population was spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 90.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.0 males. The median income for a household in the village was $39,125, and the median income for a family was $47,368. Males had a median income of $32,404 versus $26,250 for females. The Per Capita Income for the village was $18,960. 12.7% of the population and 10.4% of families were below the Poverty line.
