Nova Scotia Community College




The Nova Scotia Community College ('''NSCC''') is the Community College of Nova Scotia .
Originally Nova Scotia's Post-secondary specialized training and Vocational institutes operated independently, however in 1988 the Nova Scotia Community College was created by an act of the provincial legislature as a means to centralize administration, coordinate funding and remove program duplication. Since then, the NSCC network of Campus es has evolved into a province-wide, community-based, polytechnical institute.


FACTS AND FIGURES

NSCC provides the majority of technical and apprenticeship training in the province of Nova Scotia. Within the NSCC organization are the nationally-recognized Nova Scotia Nautical Institute and the '''Centre of Geographical Sciences'''[http://www.cogs.ns.ca/ . There are 13 campuses and six community learning centres with a combined enrollment of 8,000 full time and 12,000 part time students. NSCC has over 1,400 faculty and staff.


SCHOOLS

The NSCC is organized into five academic schools, each headed by a Dean. Schools are further divided into programs, headed by an Academic Chair.

In 2003 , the provincial government announced a significant capital investment in NSCC with over $100 million (CAD) announced for renovations to existing campuses, as well as consolidating the Akerley, Halifax and IT campuses into a new $50 million (CAD) campus being built on the Dartmouth waterfront.
