North Carolina Panhandle

The Panhandle of this state includes the mountainous region of the southern Appalachians and Blue Ridge Mountains , and borders South Carolina and part of Georgia to the south and Tennessee and part of Virginia to the north.

Some major sites in the panhandle include Mount Mitchell , the highest mountain east of the Mississippi River and the Biltmore Estate , the largest house in the United States .
