Norman Blake (born March 10 , 1938 in Chattanooga , Tennessee ) is an American Folk instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer. When Norman was one year old, his family moved to Sulphur Springs , Georgia where he was raised.

Although competent on the Mandolin , Fiddle , and Banjo , Blake is mainly known for his Guitar Flatpicking . He has played backup for June Carter , Bob Dylan , Johnny Cash , Kris Kristofferson , Joan Baez , and John Hartford . Blake played on the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band album, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" and contributed to the soundtrack of the Coen Brothers film, '' O Brother Where Art Thou? ''.

Blake has produced 32 albums, sometimes teaming with Tony Rice , and at other times with his wife, Nancy Blake. He has recorded on the Rounder , Flying Fish, Country, Takoma , Shanachie , Western Jubilee, Red House, and Plectrafone labels.
