The Village of Newark Valley is in the western part of the Town Of Newark Valley . GEOGRAPHY According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 2.5 Km&2 (1.0 Mi&2 ). None of the area is covered with water. The village is in the valley of the East Branch of Owego Creek, on Route 38. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,071 people, 390 households, and 276 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 422.0/km&2 (1,096.6/mi&2). There were 446 housing units at an average density of 175.7/km&2 (456.6/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.67% White , 0.75% Black or African American , 0.19% Native American , 0.00% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.75% from Other Races , and 0.65% from two or more races. 1.31% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 390 households out of which 37.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% were Married Couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.09. In the village the population was spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males. The median income for a household in the village was $37,935, and the median income for a family was $42,604. Males had a median income of $30,750 versus $19,250 for females. The Per Capita Income for the village was $16,919. 12.3% of the population and 7.7% of families were below the Poverty Line . 12.2% of those under the age of 18 and 9.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
