On November 9 , 2005 , Jon Corzine named Menendez to fill the Senate seat that would be vacated upon Corzine's being sworn in as Governor Of New Jersey . Menendez resigned from his post as Representative on January 17 , 2006 and was sworn in as Senator on January 18 .
