The New England Sports Network (NESN) is a regional Cable Television network that covers the six New England states. Its broadcast region encompasses all of New England, except for Fairfield County, Connecticut . The Boston Red Sox are a co-founder and the majority owner (80%) of NESN, with the Boston Bruins owning the other 20%. NESN broadcasts regional college games, non-national broadcasts of Red Sox and Bruins games, as well as analysis programs focusing on New England sports. It also simulcasts ESPNEWS for several hours a day. It is on channel 51 around the Boston area, channel 13 in Boston Proper.

During Red Sox season, NESN's pre- and post-game shows (which are co-produced with '' The Boston Globe , a co-owner of the Red Sox'') are quite in-depth, featuring a number of guests from the team and organization. Red Sox players are profiled; Jerry Remy will check in with his take on the upcoming game; Larry Lucchino typically appears on a weekly basis, as well as regular commentary from famed former Red Sox players or New England natives such as Jim Rice , Sam Horn , Gary DiSarcina , and Dennis Eckersley . Many Sox fans greatly prefer NESN's coverage over that of other networks such as Fox Sports and ESPN because of this local slant.

For Red Sox game broadcasts, Don Orsillo serves as the play-by-play announcer with Jerry Remy as his color commentator.

During 2006 , NESN will become the first network in the country to show all of their home team games (Red Sox) in High Definition .

Bruins coverage has grown somewhat ever since NESN took over exclusive rights (previously shared with WSBK ). It now includes extensive pre- and post-game shows, plus a weekly magazine show during the season. Dale Arnold and Jack Edwards split the play-by-play duties, mostly because Arnold is also a local sports-talker in Boston, while Edwards calls and hosts NHL games for OLN . Andy Brickley is the color analyst.
