Nevada Solar One will be the third largest solar power plant in the world, generating 64MW. Nevada Solar One is unrelated to Solar One , aside from having a similar name. Nevada Solar One is being built in Boulder City , Nevada by the U.S. Department Of Energy (DOE) , National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) , and Solargenix Energy . It will use Parabolic Troughs as thermal solar concentrators, heating tubes of liquid, instead of the Power Tower Concentrator . Parabolic Concentrators have been successfully operating in California commercially since 1984 . Given Nevada's land and sun resourses the state has the ability of producing more than 600GW using solar thermal concentrators like those that will be used in Nevada Solar One. Nevada Solar One is scheduled to start producing electricity by the year 2007. Other parabolic trough power plants being built are a 1MW plant Arizona , two 50MW plants in Spain , and one 500MW plant in Israel . SEE ALSO
