HISTORY Morton was officially incorporated on January 7 , 1914 . GEOGRAPHY Morton is located at 46°33'28" North, 122°16'47" West (46.557869, -122.279631). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 2.7 Km&2 (1.0 Mi&2 ). 2.7 km&2 (1.0 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,045 people, 437 households, and 273 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 388.0/km&2 (1,000.7/mi&2). There were 487 housing units at an average density of 180.8/km&2 (466.4/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.41% White , 0.00% African American , 1.24% Native American , 0.67% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.38% from Other Races , and 2.30% from two or more races. 1.15% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 437 households out of which 27.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.0% were Married Couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.3% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.91. In the city the population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 21.9% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 24.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.0 males. The median income for a household in the city was $31,063, and the median income for a family was $37,054. Males had a median income of $36,607 versus $23,438 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $16,275. 14.0% of the population and 6.9% of families were below the Poverty Line . 18.1% of those under the age of 18 and 6.8% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. POLITICS Morton is a fairly Republican area, although less so than Lewis County as a whole. The results for the 2004 U.S. Presidential Election were as follows:
