The battle that produces a moral victory for the loser is rarely an actual, literal battle. For example, if a High School Basketball team played against the Seattle SuperSonics of the National Basketball Association , Seattle would be heavily favored. As the Sonics would have players who were clearly superior in every aspect of the game, one would expect that the margin of victory would be enormous. If the high school team managed to only lose by five points or so, that would be considered a moral victory. This would still be a loss, but considering the overwhelming odds against the high school team, it would be considered an honorable achievement anyway. |
