The term ''model village'' can also refer to scale miniature villages created as tourist attractions as a type of . Examples elsewhere include Legoland (various sites in Europe and the US) and Woodleigh Replicas in Canada.

Some villages were built up around coal mines. In Yorkshire, the villages of Grimethorpe , Goldthorpe , Woodlands and Fitzwilliam were all built to house workers at the colliery, around which the houses were built.
