Mobile Commerce (also known as M-Commerce, mCommerce or U-Commerce, owing to the Ubiquitious nature of its services) is the ability to conduct Commerce , using a mobile device e.g. a Mobile Phone ( or Cell Phone ), a PDA , a Smartphone while on the move. It is a relatively new concept, first introduced in late 1990s. But it is only recently (approximately since 2003/2004) that it has begun to gain popularity with advent of new business concepts such as Ring Tones . A wireless Laptop is therefore not regarded to be as a part of Mobile Commerce devices. Transactions conducted using a laptop are rather considered to be a part of Electronic Commerce (e-commerce). The term ''Electronic Commerce'' has a bigger scope and may contain large chunks of services that are also offered via Mobile Commerce. Mobile Commerce shares a large subset with Electronic Commerce but is not limited to them. It also provides for unique, Location-based Services that are context-sensitive to the geographic location of the user. For this purpose the location of the mobile device is determined by using modern telecommunication systems, e.g. with the help of GPS . Mobile Commerce can be categorized into several applications. Prominent examples of such applications are Mobile Banking , Mobile Content , Mobile Entertainment , Mobile Marketing and Mobile Ticketing . EXTERNAL LINKS
