The 180th Airlift Squadron is located at Rosecrans Memorial Airport , Saint Joseph, Missouri . It is part of the 139th Airlift Wing, Missouri Air National Guard, and operationally flies the C-130H2 Hercules aircraft. The mission of the 180th Airlift Squadron consist of tactical resupply, aerial delivery and medivac. The unit was one of the first federally recognized Air National Guard units in the nation. It was constituted in August, 1946 as the 180th Light Bombardment Squadron equipped with B-26 aircraft. Lt Col John B. Logan was designated as the first squadron commander on July 24, 1946. He had accumulated 250 combat hours in 22 combat missions as a B-17 pilot and had been awarded the Distinguishes Flying Cross, Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters and campaign ribbons representing the Northern France, Central Europe and Normandy theaters of operation.
