Metro Express is a form of Express Bus service in Los Angeles County, California , operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority . Buses are usually express for a portion of the route, then run either local, or limited stop in other areas. Buses are identified by numbers in the 400's (going downtown). Three routes are in the 500's for suburb-to-suburb trips. There are two routes with an "X" at the end of their route schedule, the 450X and 577X. They are the only routes that uses the blue painted buses and the only routes with a blue timetable. These "X Lines" are premium express services that make minimal stops (Line 450X and Line 577X both making only five stops along the entire route). The "X" does not appear on headsigns, however. If successful, this service concept may be expanded in the future. ROUTES 439-Redondo Beach-Union Station 442-South Bay Galleria-Union Station 444-Rancho Palos Verdes-Union Station 445, 446, and 447-San Pedro-Union Station Combined, the 445, 446, and 447 operate between Union Station, at the Patsaouras Transit Plaza, and San Pedro. Route 445 operates along Figueora Street (N/B) and Flower Street (S/B) in Downtown Los Angeles, and lines 446 and 447 use Grand Avenue (S/B) and Olive Street (N/B). South of 37th Street, all routes operate along Interstate 110 , along the Harbor Transitway . South of the Artesia Transit Center , the 446 and 447 using Avalon Boulevard spur off. The 446 to the Korean Bell Site, via Pacific Avenue, and the 447 via Harbor Boulevard to the San Pedro Peninsula Hospital. The 445 continues along the Transitway to 21st Street and Pacific Avenue. The 446 operates the latest of the three, from 4:00am to 1:00am, with the other two running from roughly 6am to 9pm, all running daily. During the middle of the day, the 446 and 447 do not travel north of the Artesia Transit Center, and passengers must transfer to other northbound service. 450X-Artesia Transit Center-Downtown L.A./Financial District A pilot route, the 450X operates between the City National Plaza in the Financial District and the Artesia Transit Center via the Harbor Transitway, making only one stop along the Transitway (Harbor/I-105). Service operates rush hours only. 460- Disneyland -Downtown L.A. The 460 operates between 5th Street and Los Angeles Street in Downtown Los Angeles and lanes of Interstate 105 , which is used until the freeway's end in Norwalk . The bus then stops at the Norwalk Transportation Center to take on passengers from the LACMTA Green Line . 484-Cal Poly Pomona - Downtown L.A. Line 484 operates mostly on Valley Blvd. from Cal Poly Pomona to Downtown L.A. The express portion runs on the El Monte Busway to Union Station. Some short line trips originate and terminate in the City of Industry. Service is usually every 30 minutes Monday - Sunday, however there is very frequent service along the El Monte Busway portion, going eastbound in the morning and westbound in the early afternoon, which are in-service trips returning or coming from the El Monte Division, a major bus yard. The express portion requires an additional 2 Zone payment, which is $1 added to the base fare. 485-Altadena - Downtown L.A. Line 485 operates on Fremont Av., Huntington Dr., Oak Knoll Av., and Lake Av. from Altadena to Downtown L.A. The express portion runs on the El Monte Busway from Union Station to Cal State L.A. From there, going eastbound, the bus goes onto the 710 freeway via a ramp that connects the eastbound busway to the northbound 710, and going westbound, the bus goes from the southbound 710 to the westbound busway. Service is usually every 30 minutes every day, however during weekday rush hours, service is increased to every 10-15 minutes. The express portion requires an additional 1 Zone payment, which is $0.50 added to the base fare. 487-El Monte Bus Station - Downtown L.A. via Sierra Madre Line 487 operates on Wilshire Blvd., Valley Blvd., Las Tunas Dr., San Gabriel Bl., Sierra Madre Bl., and Santa Anita Av. from El Monte Station to the Westlake/MacArthur Park Red Line station. The express portion runs on the El Monte Busway from Union Station to Del Mar Av., where the bus enters and exits via carpool lane ramps to and from Del Mar Av. Service is about every 20 minutes during rush hours, 30-45 minutes during weekdays (non-rush hour), 45 minutes Saturdays, and 60 minutes Sundays. The express portion requires an additional 1 Zone payment, which is $0.50 added to the base fare. 489-Temple City - Downtown L.A. Line 489 operates on Wilshire Blvd., Valley Blvd. and Rosemead Blvd. from Temple City to the Westlake/MacArthur Park Red Line station. The express portion runs on the El Monte Busway from Union Station to Del Mar Av., where the bus enters and exits via carpool lane ramps to and from Del Mar Av. Service runs weekdays only in the peak direction: 5 trips in the morning, and 5 trips in the evening. The express portion requires an additional 1 Zone payment, which is $0.50 added to the base fare. 490-Cal Poly Pomona - Downtown L.A. Line 490 operates mainly on Ramona Blvd. from Cal Poly Pomona to Downtown L.A. The express portion runs on the El Monte Busway in the middle and just north of I-10 from El Monte to Union Station. Service to Downtown L.A is operated Monday-Saturday. Service is about every 20 minutes during rush hours, 30 minutes weekdays (non-rush hour), and 60 minutes weekends. The express portion requires an additional 2 Zone payment, which is $1 added to the base fare. 534-Malibu-West L.A. Transit Center Buses operate between Malibu and the West Los Angeles Transit Center . Service runs via the Pacific Coast Highway , and the Santa Monica Freeway , making it one of the more scenic routes. The 534 is the northernmost reaching line in the Metro system. Service also operates via the Mailbu High School when classes are in session throughout the school year. Buses generally run from 6:00am to 9:00pm, daily. 550-San Pedro - West Hollywood Line 550 operates between San Pedro and West Hollywood via the Harbor Transitway and San Vicente Blvd. Limited stop service is provided on Line 550 along Vermont Ave., between Pacific Coast Hwy. and the Artesia Transit Center, as well as between Figueroa St. & 39th Ave. and San Vicente Blvd & Pico Blvd. Service runs daily from around 5:00am to 11:45pm. 577X-El Monte Bus Station - Norwalk - Cal State Long Beach/V.A. Hospital Line 577X is the second "X Line", operating from the El Monte Bus Station to Cal State Long Beach and the V.A. Hospital adjacent to CSULB, along the carpool lanes on I-605. There will be only five stops along the entire length of the route: El Monte Bus Station, Norwalk Green Line station, Cal State Long Beach, 7th St. & Channel Ave., and the Veterans Affair Medical Center adjacent to Cal State Long Beach. The Line 577X promotion states that it will take 30 minutes from Norwalk to El Monte, and 20 minutes from Norwalk to Long Beach, however the actual schedule does not entirely reflect that, mostly due to anticipated traffic conditions along the I-605 corridor. Service operates weekdays only, every 20 minutes during rush hours, 30 minutes during non-rush hours, and 60 minutes after 8pm. |
