Information About

Metal Knights

HISTORY

The production for Metal Knights began in 1992, with alpha testing in 1995 and beta testing in 1996. Its full version was released in 1997. In 1997, there were 3 servers - using metalknights.com, knightsoft.ca, and IGL.net. Skyven walked away from IGL in 2003.

The original version was marketed as "Metal Knights 95", since its target platform was Windows 95 . In 1999, a second version, "Metal Knights 98" was released. This version included features such as the ability to change the time of each game, ability to disable nuclear weapons and peace treaties, and making sure that wrecks had no treasures.
As of January 2006 New MK game development committee was started.

CHEATING

By 2000, cheating had shown its face in Metal Knights, albeit rare. New code was implemented to aid against cheating, and a user-based group, the Metal Knights Committee (MKC) was created. Cheating is almost non-existant thanks to the security and watch-dog programs built into the game. The MKC takes care of the rest expeditiously.

POPULARITY OF METAL KNIGHTS

At its peak in 1999, Metal Knights served 4000 simultaneous games. There were as many as 10,000 users listed in each of the Hall Of Fame lists.

As at 2005, there are about 300 simultaneous games, with less than 300 users listed in each of the Hall of Fame lists.

SPIN OFFS

Metal Knights 2 was originally scheduled for release by 2000; however, it has not been completed. Although the creator, Skyven, puts forth there will be an MK2, it is currently on the back burner while other priorities are taken care of. Metal Knights is still updated with new maps via the Metal Knight Map Committee.
