Information About

Mercenary (band)

Mercenary is a ''Melodic Death Thrash '' metal band from Denmark which was founded in 1991. Up to now Mercenary could release three albums and a few demos.

THE NAME OF THE BAND

In 1991 when Kral and Andreas were forming the band, they heard a song of Slayer called ''Fallen Mercenary'' they decided to take ''Mercenary'' as their bandname. They also used to paint as soldiers but stopped it when it got to difficult to get painted before the show and to remove the painting after the show.

BIOGRAPHY

Mercenary started as a four-man project at the beginning of the 90's. After they recorded the first two Albums with the danish Label Serious Entertainment , they signed a contract with Century Media for their latest and most successful album ''11 Dreams''.

After Kral, songwriter and bassplayer, sung all songs on the ''First Breath'' album alone, the band realised that this could not be the final line-up. For the album ''Everblack'' the could convert the brothers Mikkel and Morten Sandager. Mikkel should actually do only one song.

Mercenary could increase their famousness by playing at the Prog-Power in the USA . After they recorded the album ''Everblack'' the band realised that drummer Rasmus Jacobsen invested too less time for Mercenary but more for other projects. Guitarist Signar Petersen also left the band because of personal reasons. As a substitute for Rasmus Jacobsen, Mike Park joined the band. Kral has known Mike since 1993, on a conert in Copenhagen they decided to work together. Martin Buus Pedersen joined the band as a substitute for Signar Petersen. Kral got to know him as a 17 year old, in a music store where he worked, when he tested a guitar. Kral asked for his phonenumber and 3 years later Martin joined the Band.

The third album ''11 Dreams'' was accepted internationally and after Mercenary was the supportband for Evergrey they could tour as a support band for Brainstorm (German Band) who did their first headlining tour in europe.

Mercenary also played on the 16th Wacken Open Air in 2005, and supported Nevermore on a European tour later that year.

At the end of march 2006 the band announced that Kral left the band because of personal reasons. The band is still searching for a substitution of the same quality who can manage to do the growls and the Bass Guitar .

On April, 7th 2006 the band finished the recording of their new album ''The Hours that Remain'', which was recorded at Jacob Hansens Studios.
