Information About

Medieval World, Usa

At the center of Medieval World, USA will be a 25-acre medieval village. As it would have been in any village of the period, the center of the village will be a church. Surrounding the church will be the village square, seven village greens, and a marketplace, where more than 120 craftsmen, artisans, and merchants will demonstrate their crafts and offer apprenticeships to others, helping to keep alive the arts of the medieval period that are slowly disappearing for lack of a living history locale to preserve them. Located on the village greens will be seven entertainment stages, each representing one of the seven Stages of Knighthood. During festivals, the stages will host acts, music, and other entertainments.

From the village square, one will be able to see the gatehouse and main entry of a massive, full-sized castle, and a path leading from the village to the castle. Contained within the castle’s 18-foot-tall, eight-feet-thick walls will be all the things that one would expect to find in a stronghold of the Middle Ages: a great hall, a keep, gate towers, a knight’s hall, lists, a chapel, stables, a well, a blacksmith, a dovecote, mews, a courtyard, an arsenal, a sanitary tower, kitchens, and servants quarters. Another path will lead from the village to a 40-acre tournament field, which will host displays of horsemanship, siege engines, re-enactments of full-scale combats, and much more.

Surrounding the castle and village will be a true agrarian environment of the period - more than 400 acres that will retain the natural features of the land and will eventually include farms, mills, monasteries, vineyards, and perhaps even smaller villages. Each summer, the grounds of Medieval World, USA will be the site of the Colorado Medieval Festival , which will eventually expand to an eight-week venue. Other events would be held in this unique setting throughout the year including activities from the authentic living history to events by organizations such as the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc., LARPs groups and others with an interest in themed events with the middle ages as the core premise.

Middle Age Productions was created to develop the partnerships and funding sources necessary for the development and construction of Medieval World, USA, a unique attraction that will draw visitors to northern Colorado and will benefit surrounding communities, schools, non-profit organizations and businesses. The Colorado Medieval Festival was organized in 2005 to support this grander concept of the creation of this permanent living history venue.
