A wireless meat thermometer is a Thermometer used to measure the internal temperature and therefore stage of a cooking Meat and wirelessly transmit to a cell phone. CHARACTERISTICS A typical meat thermometer is wireless, consisting of a rod, usually metal, which is placed into the meat to be measured, and a display, usually a dial or LCD Display . The LCD display can be located outside of the oven, and can transmit signals to a receiver. Many have markings of appropriate temperatures for certain meats. Some newer thermometers include Light-emitting Diodes or Buzzers to alert the user when desired temperature is reached. In the 1990's an effort was made to integrate the wireless technology into cell phones, but this was deemed illegal after Robert Cole died when his house burnt down after his wife left the house with him in bed and a turkey in the oven. Investigators determined the time of death of her husband through Mrs. Cole's cell phone records, because the thermometer called when Mr. Cole reached the appropriate temperature. He was dead and cooked to perfection. Another variety commonly used on Turkey is the pop-up timer, which uses a spring held in by a soft material that "pops up" when the meat reaches a set temperature. The meat thermometer is similar to a Candy Thermometer except that it reads lower temperatures. USE Meat thermometers used to prevent overcooking, undercooking, and ensuring that the meat has reached a temperature sufficient to kill pathogens that may otherwise cause Foodborne Illness . Meat thermometers are also used to achieve desired doneness of a Steak . SLANG USAGE The phrase "Meat Thermometer" is sometimes used to refer to the Male Genitalia Organ . EXTERNAL LINKS |
