Matchless is one of the senior marques of the British motorcycle industry. The first motorcycle produced in 1899 and commercial production beginning in 1901. A wide range of models were produced, ranging from smaller two strokes to 750 cc fourstroke twins. Among these the most famous models included the Silver Hawk and the Silver Arrow. During the amalgamations that occurred within the British motorcycle industry in the 1960's the Matchless Four stroke twin was replaced with the Norton engine ending a long history of independent production. |
