Massachusetts General Election, 2006




The Massachusetts general election will be held on November 7 , 2006 in the Commonwealth Of Massachusetts . The general election will include statewide elections for U.S. Senator , Governor , Lieutenant Governor , Attorney General , Secretary Of The Commonwealth , Treasurer , and Auditor , and district elections for U.S. Representatives , State Representative , State Senator , and Governor's Councilor . There will also be ballot initiatives at the state and local levels.

There are many potential statewide ballot questions (listed below) that have been certified by the Attorney General and were submitted with at least 65,000 signatures. The legislature can pass the law by May 2 , or supporters can put it on the ballot by getting 11,000 additional signatures by July 5 .   • A law to allow local authorities to license grocery stores to sell wine.

  • A law to ban dog racing and increase protection of dogs.

  • The "Affordable Health Care Act" to help small businesses and uninsured buy health insurance, and to expand Medicaid coverage.

  • "An Act To Bring Home Our Troops" ordering the Governor to withdraw the Massachusetts National Guard from Iraq.

  • A constitutional amendment to establish an "Independent Redistricting Commission" as a non-partisan alternative to the state legislature.

  • A law to create "more ballot choices" by allowing for Fusion Voting .

  • A law to allow personal care attendants working for Medicaid to create a workforce council for collective bargaining.

  • A law to allow family child care providers working for the state to bargain collectively.

  • A constitutional amendment to allow Massachusetts join a democratically elected "Global Federal Union" of democratic nations to delegate international affairs powers.
