AIRBRUSH MASKS AND FRISKETS Airbrush masks and friskets are a vital part of airbrushing. They are used to control paint spray, create special effects, achieve extreme precision, control edge attributes and to expedite the airbrushing process. An airbrush mask can be made out of almost any material, or found object. For example a paper clip, gauze, paper, shampoo caps etc.. Airbrush artists also use masking tape, fine line blue tape and various other types of tape. Airbrush friskets are a plastic, low adhesive backed material much like contact paper (shelf paper). Both matte and glossy are available. Some friskets are also solvent proof and manufactured for the custom airbrushing industry which uses solvent reduced and based urethanes. USING FRISKETS The frisket is fixed to the painting surface and then the appropriate shapes are cut out of the material using a very sharp exacto knife or scalpel. The cut piece is lifted, the exposed area painted and the process repeated with the remaining shapes. when all painting is finished, the frisket is removed leaving precise shapes with no overspray.
