The Maryland Congressional election of 2006 will be held on Tuesday, November 7 , 2006 . The terms of all eight Represenatives to the United States House Of Representatives will expire on January 3 , 2007 , and will be put up for contest. The winning candidates will serve a two-year term from January 3 , 2007 to January 3 , 2009 . The Primary Elections will be held on Tuesday, September 12 , 2006 . (For the Senate election, see Maryland U.S. Senate Election, 2006 .) POSSIBLE CHANGE IN DATE OF PRIMARY The Maryland General Assembly could improve the chances of electing a Democratic candidate for governor and for the U.S. Senate by changing the primary election date (most likely to June). This might also affect House races. The current primary date, only two months before the General election, helps incumbent politicians. In the past these were primarily from the Democratic party. State Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller , Democratic candidates for the governor and U.S. Senate, and the head of the Maryland Democratic Party, Terry Lierman, have all pushed for this change. Speaker Michael Busch , however, has opposed such a change as it would assist Republican candidates for the state House, including challengers in his own district.
