Information AboutMary-jane Gething |
|
Gething has done extensive work on the Endoplasmic Reticulum chaperones BiP. Her research papers include "Role and regulation of the ER chaperone BiP," "Role and regulation of the ER chaperone Bip binding sequences in antibodies," and "BiP binding sequences in HIV gp160". Gething's work is very important as BiP is involved in many different processes in the cell: it binds newly synthesised proteins and maintains them in a stable state. It is an essential component of translocation machinery and also plays an esssental role in retrograde transport of proteins across the cell to the proteosome. Due to her work this very important protein is now well understood. Gething has also published two books: "Protein transport and secretion" was published in 1985; "Guidebook to Molecular Chaperones and protein folding catalysts" (1997) describes important aspects of structure, function, and regulation of all known chaperones and enzymes involved in protein folding. |
