GEOGRAPHY Marlinton is located at 38°13'29" North, 80°5'41" West (38.224650, -80.094677). According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 6.0 Km&2 (2.3 Mi&2 ). 5.8 km&2 (2.2 mi&2) of it is land and 0.3 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 4.29% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,204 people, 552 households, and 290 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 208.5/km&2 (539.8/mi&2). There were 653 housing units at an average density of 113.1/km&2 (292.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.92% White , 1.16% African American , 0.08% Native American , 0.08% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.08% from Other Races , and 0.66% from two or more races. 0.17% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 552 households out of which 22.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.9% were Married Couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 47.3% were non-families. 42.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 21.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.04 and the average family size was 2.80. In the town the population was spread out with 19.6% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 22.8% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 25.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 83.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 76.6 males. The median income for a household in the town was $21,293, and the median income for a family was $33,125. Males had a median income of $26,500 versus $16,477 for females.
