Her case received much publicity from a number of female reporters, whose articles managed to help gain support and a new trial for Barbari. The case was debated nationwide and scores of people wrote letters to New York Governor Levi P. Morton on her behalf. Her defense claimed she was Epileptic and suffered from mental problems.
