Information About

Manuscript Society

Its tomb, designed by famed architect King-Lui Wu , appears from the outside to have only one level, concealing three subterranean floors. The tomb’s walled backyard has a fountain. The building is rumored to have built-in secret fish pond somewhere inside. The tomb holds a good collection of art, and the Yale University Art Gallery has temporarily stored pieces there. Acclaimed Bauhaus artist Josef Albers designed part of the tomb.

Manuscript is rumored to have a unique admissions process that includes faculty members, alumni, and the current senior delegation, and aims to make each senior class racially, culturally, extracurricularly, and academically diverse. The society sometimes loses distinguished junior candidates to other societies because of its age and size.

Each year, the senior class throws a small Halloween party (as fictionally recounted in the novel "Joe College" by Tom Perrotta , whose novel, "Election" became a movie starring Reese Witherspoon ).
