Information About

Mansonite

POPULAR USAGE

The term "Mansonite" is usually invoked by older members of the goth subculture, and is frequently used as an insult against teenagers claiming to be a part of the goth scene yet not actually being goth. Many of them consider themselves to be full-fledged members of the goth scene, but are too young to attend Nightclubs or have a completely different outlook on life, often playing completely into the stereotypes which may or may not be remotely accurate to the goth subculture. The term is rarely used by those who are referred to by it, as it is generally considered derogatory; it describes large amounts of contempt. Calling someone a Mansonite can be used as an insult which ranges from saying they're immature, to saying they're worthless, depending on tone of voice and the person who is using the term. The contempt is often held because many of the negative stereotypes placed on the goth scene are often embraced by mansonites, proclaiming "Gothness". Some goths use the words "Mansonite" and "Spooky Kid" interchangably, but many self-described Spooky Kids get offended when referred to as Mansonites.

OUTLOOKS

For many young people getting into the goth scene, Marilyn Manson and similar bands/artists are often their first exposure to dark music, although Manson's music is by-and-large not considered goth music; it is usually considered to be more along the lines of Shock Rock as opposed to traditional Gothic Rock like Bauhaus or The Sisters Of Mercy .
