A Long List of twenty-four children's books was put forward by secondary-school pupils and publishers; books on this list had to have been standalone books (that is, not sequels) published between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2005 , written by authors living in the U.K. Reading groups then narrowed this to a short list of six. In January 2006, young people across Manchester started voting for their favourite, either on line in libraries; the deadline for voting was 10 March 2006 . The six short-listed finalists for the 2006 award were:
The winner of the 2006 Manchester Book Award, which was announced at the award ceremony on 23 March 2006 at the City Of Manchester Stadium , was ''Stuff'' by Jeremy Strong . The Neighbourhood Renewal Fund has announced that the Manchester Book Award will run again in 2007. EXTERNAL LINKS |
