The name is derived from a well-known , which means practically every Finnish male has some kind of military training. As a result, many Finnish corporations favour reserve officers and reserve NCOs as managers, and reserve military rank is often considered more a merit as a manager than any civilian experience, degrees or competence. This usage may also effectively lead to the exclusion of women from higher management and can create a Bigot ed and Militaristic environment in the workplace. As a result, Finnish leadership is usually considered very authoritarian, strict and intolerant, albeit quick to react and decisive, if the manager leads "at front", by example, and not just by commanding. While an Army-style management can produce results in a crisis, it is not well suited to making success during good times, and can prove extremely problematic when two different management styles collide, e.g., in an international Merger . Generally "management by perkele" implies indiscriminate application of Army methods in civilian life — exporting practises which are proper for one small specific area of society into another, where they prove harmful or even destructive.
