Lunglei, sometimes spelled Lungleh, literally meaning 'bridge of rock' got its name from a bridge like rock found in the riverine area around Nghasih - a small tributary of the river Tlawng. The town has also built one of the biggest halls in Mizoram called 'Saikuti Hall' where most of the Concerts and functions are held. An unusual Museum has also been established in the hall where local Painters have demonstrate their skill and exhibit their works. Two major, sophisticated and well-infrastructured hospitals namely Christian Hospital situated in Serkawn and Civil Hospital of Lunglei in Chanmari attend to the sick and those in need of physical aid. |
