The organisation was established in (Chicago, IL), Harvard Medical School (Boston, MA), Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, MD), Massachusetts Institute Of Technology (Cambridge, MA), Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York, NY), and Stanford University Medical Center (Stanford, CA). Clinical research is conducted in four primary divisions: Genetics , Biochemistry , Cell Biology , and Immunology . To concentrate research in particular areas, each branch of the Institute has a special focus:

In addition, the ''Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research'' runs cooperative programs with a broad range of Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology companies based on licensing arrangements involving Institute Intellectual Property .
