It was built under the existing Eglinton West Station for the Toronto Transit Commission 's Eglinton West Subway . Unlike some of Toronto 's other abandoned stations, Lower Eglinton West was merely a partial tunnel built along Eglinton Avenue and filled in after the Government Of Ontario cancelled the proposed subway line.
