They are not the same club as the original Loughborough F.C., who briefly played in The Football League at the end of the 19th century. HISTORY The original Loughborough F.C. started life as Loughborough Town F.C., and joined the Midland League in 1891. In 1895 the club were crowned champions, and elected to the Second Division of the Football League. Upon joining the League, the club dropped Town from its name, and were known simply as Loughborough F.C. The club struggled in the Second Division, never finishing higher than 12th (out of 16). In 1900 the club finished bottom of the League, conceding an astonishing 100 goals in 34 games, and collecting only 8 points of a possible 68, still one of the worst records of any Football League team. After dropping out of the League, the club were accepted back into the Midland League, but did not compete, and subsequently disappeared from existence. Since then, there have been another two Loughborough F.C.s. The first came into existence in 1988, when Loughborough J.O.L. (formerly Thorpe Acre Hallam F.C.) changed their name to Loughborough F.C. The club competed in the Central Midlands League , but left and apparently folded in 1990. In 2001, the name Loughborough F.C. reappeared again when Loughborough Athletic F.C., who had a history dating back to 1894, changed their name to Loughborough F.C. The club were (and still are) members of the Midland Combination. EXTERNAL LINKS
