The ''Loughborough Echo'' is the only paid-for local Newspaper based in the town of Loughborough in Leicestershire , England and serving the town and the surrounding area. There is also a special Shepshed edition serving the nearby town of Shepshed . It is owned by Trinity Mirror Group limited, and published on a weekly basis. It is published on Thursday mornings and costs £0.48 (as of March 2006). The newspaper is well known for its lively letter columns in which contributors debate such items of local interest as the controversial introduction of " Wheelie Bin s" into the Charnwood Borough Council area, and the continuing expansion of Loughborough University . Issues such as Creationism , the existence of God and the value of the senses are also popular recurring subjects. One of the Echo's most popular regular sections is the humorous page entitled "View Point" written by the former editor, John Rippin, which is a hilarious and understated parody of Provincial English Newspapers . The Loughborough Echo, is also usually associated with The Coalville Echo and Ashby Times newspapers.
