''Looking for Alaska'' is the first young adult novel by John Green, published in March 2005 by Dutton Juvenile . It tells the story of Miles, a student at Culver Creek boarding school outside of Birmingham , Alabama , who falls in love with a charismatic girl named Alaska Young. Alaska eventually dies in an apparent suicide. COMPARISONS AND REFERENCES Green attended Indian Springs School , a boarding and day school outside of Birmingham, Alabama.
