It runs many programs including a National Soul-Winning Clinic and other conferences, ''The Baptist'' magazine, Texas Baptist College , and Longview Christian Academy, a grade school. Its primary purpose as stated on its website is "the fulfillment of the Great Commission as given to Christ's churches in Matthew 28:19,20; Mark 16:15; Luke 19:10; and Acts 1:8." LBT has been criticized harshly by former member and Texas Baptist College graduate James Spurgeon . Spurgeon accuses it of being preoccupied with its numbers of converts and legalism, and accuses Dr. Gray of assuming excessive authority over the details of churchgoers' lives. James Spurgeon has little standing with most Independent Fundamental Baptist .He is known for being part of a new movement in the IFB sect.
