The first ship of the class, the USS Long Island , AVG-1, later CVE-1, was launched on 11 JAN 1940, and served in the US Navy through World War Two .

The second and last ship of the class, the HMS Archer (D78) was launched on 14 December 1939, and served in the Royal Navy through World War Two . It is also listed in US Navy records as BAVG-1, the "B" presumably standing for "British."
