The 2005 stock is a type of London Underground train currently under construction by Bombardier for the Victoria Line , to replace the ageing 1967 Tube Stock . It will have ATO ( Automatic Train Operation ), and the first of two pre-production trains is expected to be delivered to London Underground in late 2006 for testing on the Victoria Line during engineering hours, after having been tested at Bombardier's site in Derby . It will also be used for driver and maintenance training and familiarisation. These two trains are expected to commence passenger service in 2009, with the remainder of the fleet of 47 being delivered between 2009 and 2012. In conjunction with new Signalling , the new trains will provide improved reliability and journey times, an increase in capacity, more comfortable rides, wider doors to decrease dwell times in stations, and more facilities for the Disabled , including space for wheelchairs. Metronet announced on 3 February 2006 that the first of the pre-production cars had been completed in preparation for static testing. EXTERNAL LINKS |
