It was built by Cravens of Sheffield , initially to run on the main Central line, but instead the 1962 Stock was opted for. The 1960 stock trains ran mainly on the Hainault loop and towards the end of its life a 3-car 1960 stock train marshalled 1938 Stock cars operated the peak-only Epping - Ongar shuttle. The 1960 stock was withdrawn when the line closed in September 1994 . One of the 1960 Stock trains is still owned by LUL and remains in use as Track Recording Unit . PRESERVATION One complete unit was preserved by Cravens Heritage Trains in 1994 and often runs on Railtour s along the London Underground system.
