Information About

Lipidil

Lipidil (Fenofibrate) belongs to the class of medications known as Fibrates , which are used to lower elevated serum Lipids by decreasing the low density Lipoprotein ( LDL ) fraction rich in Cholesterol and the very low density lipoprotein ( VLDL ) fraction rich in Triglycerides . In addition, fenofibrate increases the high density lipoprotein ( HDL ) cholesterol fraction and seem to improve Insulin Resistance when the Dyslipidemia is associated with other features of Syndrome X ( Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus -Type 2).

''Lipidil'' specifically is used to combat hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol in the blood), usually in conjunction with a Statin drug such as Lipitor . This may help prevent the development of Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).

SIDE EFFECTS:

''Lipidil'', like most fibrates, can cause stomach upsets and Myopathy (muscle pain). Long term use can cause Liver damage and renal (kidney) failure.
