Information About

Linux Tablet

One early implementation of a Linux Tablet was the ProGear by FrontPath. The ProGear uses a Transmeta chip and a resistive digitizer. The ProGear initially came with a version of Slackware Linux, but could later be bought with Windows 98. Because these computers are general purpose IBM PC Compatible machines, they can run many different operating systems.

Another promising version of Linux for Tablet PC is Lycoris LX[http://www.lycoris.com/products/tablet/]. Lycoris assets were recently bought out by Mandriva Linux. Mandriva has not yet announced whether development on Lycoris LX for Tablet PC will be continued, but it seems a reasonable assumption especially considering that the Tablet software was specifically mentioned in their release [http://www.mandriva.com/company/press/pr?n=/pr/corporate/2556].

Some Linux Tablets are actually convertible laptops, like the EmperorLinux Raven X41 Tablet {Link without Title}
This 3.5 pound machine can be used as a standard laptop, or the LCD panel can be rotated around and closed to obscure the keyboard. Doing this requires that the Xorg configuration be capable of rotation. To fully enjoy a Linux tablet you'll need to get handwriting recognition software, included on the EmperorLinux Raven, which can be trained to your specific handwriting style.
