Lincoln Herbert Akerman ( March 25 , 1916 - November 20 , 1942 ) was an American war hero from Hampton Falls , New Hampshire . He was born on March 25 , 1916 , to May and Charles Akerman. He had two brothers, Oliver and Charles, and three sisters: Charlotte, Priscilla, and Josephine. Akerman grew up in Hampton Falls . He married Patricia Butler and had a son named Brian in September of 1942 . He was the first Hampton Soldier reported to lose his life in conflict. Lincoln died in the Philippines on November 20 , 1942 . Akerman was initially stationed at Camp Edwards , Massachusetts , then sent to New Caledonia for nine months before being sent to the Philippines, where he was killed in combat. He had volunteered to defuse bombs by entering the containment facilities, but a mistake occurred and he was killed by one of the bombs he was trying to defuse. MEMORIALS Soon after his death, a school in Hampton Falls was named after him - Lincoln Akerman School , for children from Kindergarten through 8th grade.
