Liman (Лиман) is a quarter of the city Novi Sad in the Serbia n province of Vojvodina .


BORDERS


The northern border of Liman is Bulevar Cara Lazara (Tzar Lazar Boulevard), the western borders are Ulica Ribarsko ostrvo (Ribarsko ostrvo Street) and Ulica Sima Matavulja (Simo Matavulj Street), while the southern and eastern border is Sunčani kej (The Sunny Quay).


NEIGHBOURING SETTLEMENTS


The neighbouring settlements are: Telep in the west, Adamovićevo Naselje , Grbavica and Stari Grad in the north, and Ribarsko Ostrvo (not a settlement, but tourist destination) in the south. In the south-east of the settlement is river Danube .


PARTS OF LIMAN


Liman consists of four parts - Liman 1 (between the Sunny Quay and Fruškogorska Street), Liman 2 (between Fruškogorska Street and Liberation Boulevard), Liman 3 (between Liberation Boulevard and Balzakova Street), and Liman 4 (between Balzakova Street in the east and Ribarsko ostrvo Street and Simo Matavulj Street in the west).


HISTORY


The parts of the settlement were developed chronologically. Liman 1 was developed first in early 1960s, and Liman 4 was still being built up towards the end of 1990's.

Between 1980 and 1989, Liman was one of the seven municipalities of Novi Sad City. The municipality included part of the city quarter of Liman, as well as city quarters of Grbavica , Adamovićevo Naselje and Ribarsko Ostrvo .


FEATURES


Limans lie on the left bank of river Danube, and the world-famous river beach ( Štrand ) is a part of Liman 2. Most facilities of the University Of Novi Sad are within the area of Liman 1. Liman 1 was started as a housing project for professors of the University of Novi Sad.
