Information About

Life (racing Team)

Life was a Formula One constructor from Italy . The company, founded by Ernesto Vita (the name being a pun on the English translation of his name), first emerged on the Formula One scene in 1988, trying to market their unconventional W12 3.5 L engine. With no-one willing to invest, the small company built up funds over the course of 1989, purchasing the unraced FIRST chassis, designed by Richard Divila , and fitted their own Life W12 for the 1990 season, naming the car the L190. Australian Gary Brabham was signed to drive, but after failing to prequalify the under-tested, underpowered car for the opening two Grands Prix, he left the team. Veteran Bruno Giacomelli replaced him, but with no testing time the team failed to progress, not pre-qualifying once. For the Spanish Grand Prix , the team replaced their own engine with a Judd V8, but then found the engine cover did not fit over this new engine. They withdrew before the final two Grands Prix, and were never heard from again.
