) On April 9 , 1872 , Francis Godschall Johnson was appointed as Lieutenant-Governor, replacing Archibald. His commission was revoked before he was sworn in, however, and Archibald was retained in the position for a few months longer. Johnson was usually included in nineteenth-century lists of Manitoba's lieutenant-governors, but was dropped from the ranks in the early twentieth-century.
