The Village of Liberty is in the Town Of Liberty by New York Route 17. HISTORY The village was incorporated in 1870 . GEOGRAPHY Liberty is located at 41°47'52" North, 74°44'34" West (41.797792, -74.742829). According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 6.2 Km&2 (2.4 Mi&2 ). None of the area is covered with water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 3,975 people, 1,646 households, and 893 families residing in the village. The Population Density was 642.2/km&2 (1,660.3/mi&2). There were 2,071 housing units at an average density of 334.6/km&2 (865.0/mi&2). The racial makeup of the village was 76.58% White , 13.89% Black or African American , 0.30% Native American , 1.94% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 5.38% from Other Races , and 1.91% from two or more races. 14.21% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 1,646 households out of which 30.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.8% were Married Couples living together, 16.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 45.7% were non-families. 38.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 3.09. In the village the population was spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 84.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.7 males. The median income for a household in the village was $27,903, and the median income for a family was $35,265. Males had a median income of $26,823 versus $27,813 for females. The Per Capita Income for the village was $19,180. 15.3% of the population and 12.7% of families were below the Poverty Line . 13.5% of those under the age of 18 and 12.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
