The last call bell is a Bell used in Bars to signify the Last Call for Alcohol of the day. The "last call" time varies by establishment, and relates to either the bar's closing time, and/or a time mandated by a Blue Law . In many areas this is 2:00 AM. The last call bell is rung to announce the last chance to place orders at the bar, generally 10 mins before the end of service. The bell is rung again to indicate the close of sales, and finally to indicate the close of the bar. Last call bell's have been used in bars for centuries, and may originate from signaling provied by Ship's Bells . REFERENCES The National Pist article |
