Laranjeiras is a primarily residential neighborhood located in the Southern Zone of Rio De Janeiro . It is one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, being founded in the 17th Century , with the construction of country houses in the valley located around Carioca River , which bordered Corcovado . Because of this, the neighborhood were previously called "Vale do Carioca", meaning Carioca Valley.

Located in Laranjeiras are the Palácio Guanabara (the seat of the state government), the Palácio Laranjeiras, the Parque Guinle (Guinle Park) and the headquarters of Fluminense Football Club .

Also, Laranjeiras Stadium , a Football (soccer) playing field owned by Fluminense, is located in the neighborhood.

Laranjeiras is directly connected with Cosme Velho neighborhood.
