Landon Kyle Johnson (born in New York City in 1976) was an American politician. LIFE AFTER COLLEGE Following his graduation in 2001, he went to work for the Brookhaven-based company Miller Internet Services. He was made assistant manager of this company in 2002, and purchased the company when it came up for sale in June of 2002. He renamed it Johnson Communciations. The business was very successful, and by 2004 Johnson was ranked as a top Lincoln County businessman. In 2001, he began dating Kate Watson, the daughter of his father's former boss, Kevin Watson Sr. He entered the political field of East Lincoln, Mississippi in 2002, being elected to represent Ward 3 in the City Council. He served in this post for a little over a year before moving into a new job: alderman-at-large of East Lincoln. He married Kate Watson on October 25, 2003. He ran for mayor of East Lincoln in November of 2004, being defeated by 23 votes. In January of 2005, he annouced his running in the special election for the District 92 Mississippi House of Representatives seat. He defeated two opponents for the position, winning a 52 percent majority in the election. He resigned as alderman-at-large and was replaced by his ex wife, Kate Johnson. His first child was born on Feb. 28, 2004 - Tiffany Nicole Johnson. The couple were expecting another child during 2005, but the pregnancy was cut short at 6 months by a miscarriage. DIVORCE In June of 2004, Kate Johnson filed for divorce. A very public divorce trial began in July, and the marriage ended on August 1, 2004. The couple remained friendly, and got back together in the first months of 2005. DEATH Johnson was killed in a Memphis car accident in July of 2005 at the age of 28. Gov. Haley Barbour , R-MS, praised Johnson as a "man of intregity" and said that he would be greatly missed. Johnson was honorary marshall of the Lincoln County 2005 Christmas Parade. |
