Lance-corporal Jack Jones

PERSONALITY

Born in Walmington-On-Sea in 1870, Jones signed up in the army in his youth and later became a drummer boy. He recalls fondly of his time during the Battle of Omdurman in the Sudan, under the lead of General Kitchener. His comrade Private Clarke, who was with him at the time dervishes attcked and kidnapped the two soldiers - later mistook the situation they had been in, and was under the impression that Jones left him to die.

At the time of World War Two, Jones was a high-street butcher, he was respected by everyone (particularly Mrs. Fox, his bride-to-be), he was so keen to sign up for the Home Guard that, Captain Mainwaring - seeing Jones' potential instantly signed him up as the platoon's Lance Corporal.

Jones' personality comes across as lively, and on the borders of madness. He often makes far-fetched and crazy suggestions for the platoon (thus Mainwaring's statement "I think you're wandering into the realms of fantasy" - as he often does). Jones is best known for his catchphrases 'Don't Panic', 'Permission to speak, sir', and of course - 'They don't like it up 'em'.

Jones appears to have very good relationships with Mainwaring and Wilson (who he often bribes with meat when he wants his own way), and most of all Private Joe Walker - who he often sides with. His main rivalry is usually with Frazer and the Verger - who he calls a trouble maker.
